I read an interview with Fish in the Sun (no, I don’t buy the Sun, honest, someone scanned it and uploaded it to a Fish fans’ Yahoo group) where he was talking about the break-up of his relationship with a tidy young piece he was going to marry. Apparently one of the issues between them was starting a family. All credit to the guy for not being ashamed to admit in a national paper that “she was desperate you know but I couldn’t have any… that was after picking up a virus in Egypt which attacked my baws”. A typically Scottish way of viewing one of life’s setbacks!
Fish’s solo material has been a bit of a mix really. When it’s good it’s very very good, and when it’s bad it’s still okay. Except for his album of cover versions, Songs From The Mirror, which is… erm… bad. Shockingly bad.
This track’s off his second solo record way back in 1991. When we dragged my mate Steve (who’s more a fan of gay 80s pop than anything you’d find in my CD rack) along kicking and screaming to a Fish gig last year, he ended up singing along with this. I’m sure you will too.
There’s a new album coming out in a month or two which from the rough edits posted on MySpace sounds pretty promising. If you can’t wait for it come out pay Fish’s website a visit now and stock up on his older material.
